Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 – Specifications and Pricing Compared

The third generation of the tablets from Samsung certainly promised to take care of several aspects that went wrong with the first two generations.

It needs to be the case with this generation because the company cannot afford to make any more mistakes in this highly competitive segment. As a result, Samsung has introduced several new features in its latest line-up of tablets – Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, which were announced just 12 months ago.

Display

The two tablets were announced in the middle of 2013 and they adopted a similar philosophy in terms of design, compared to the previous generation devices. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is a device oriented in the portrait mode while the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will be keen to take advantage of the widescreen aspect ratio, which is increasing in popularity. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is expected to compete against the iPad Air and the Nexus 7, while the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 will be going up against the likes of the iPad Mini 2.

Screen

The screen size of the two devices reflects this aspect because they come with an 8 inch unit in the case of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and the 10.1 inch unit in the case of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. The only difference between the two screens comes about in the size because they both employ the same 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. They both use the familiar android user interface seen in several Samsung devices.

Memory

Being extremely competitive multimedia devices, they have to offer substantial memory in order to satisfy the hunger for games, videos, and photos. Identical memory options of 16 GB and 32 GB is offered in the two devices. They also provide the same capability to expand the memory by additional 64 GB using memory cards of the microSD format. The RAM offered in the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is slightly higher at 1.5 GB compared to the 1 GB on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

Camera

Camera is usually not a feature that is much used on a tablet PC. Recognizing this aspect, Samsung has provided only a 3.15 megapixel camera on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. It seriously lacks in features like autofocus and Flash, but users can make do with the 720p video recording ability. The device also features a 1.3 megapixel front facing unit. The five megapixel camera on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is not only better at taking pictures, but it also provides most of the standard camera options like auto focus and face detection. It too comes with a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera.

Price

Available at just $ 250 for the 8 inch model, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 represents great value for money. In the 10.1 inch model, the price is just around $ 190 considering the reduced features like camera and pixel density.
