The Motorolo Moto E comes with a 4.3 inch screen, which is a capacitive touchscreen. It has a resolution of 540 x 960p. As for the Nokia Lumia 520, it comes with an IPS LCD screen of 4 inches, which has a resolution of 480 x 800p. The Moto E comes with a higher pixel density of 256 ppi, whereas the Lumia 520 has a ppi of 233 ppi. The Moto E has a more rounded edge, making it more ergonomic, compared to the sharper edge of the Lumia 520.

As for the dimensions, the Motorola E weighs 142g and has dimensions of 124.8 x 64.8 x 12.3 mm. On the other hand, the Lumia 520 weighs less at 124g and has dimensions of 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm. The Motorola E also has a bigger screen, so it is naturally heavier.

The Nokia Lumia 520 comes in different colors, such as yellow, white and black as well as cyan and red. The Moto E comes in only black and white options.

The colors on Moto E are punchy and legibility in sunlight is quite good. However, viewing angles are not too good. It is well protected with the Gorilla Glass 3 and does not get scratched easily. The Lumia 520 also offers good color reproduction but does not offer Gorilla Glass protection.

Hardware and Software Specs

A dual core cortex A7 processor powers the Moto E, clocking at 1.2 GH, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chip. The internal memory is 4 GB and this can be expanded to a maximum of 32 GB with the use of a microSD card. On the other hand, a dual core processor of 1 GHz with a Qualcomm MSM8227 chip powers the Lumia 520. The internal memory is more at 8 GB and this can be expanded to a maximum of 64 GB with the use of a micro SD card.

As for the software specs, the Moto E uses the Android KitKat OS with a RAM of 1 GB. The Nokia Lumia 520 uses the OS of Microsoft Windows Phone 8. This can be upgraded to WP 8 Black as well and it comes with a RAM of 512 MB. The Moto E has a better computing power, when compared to the Nokia Lumia 520, as it is a newer device.

Moto E has better hardware, but the Lumia 520 is able to match the Moto E in performance, though it does not have an equally powerful hardware. As for the software, Moto E offers access to some of the best applications. It also offers the best version of stock Android and a very good multitasking experience. It is also available at a lower price of around $120, compared to the Lumia 520 at around $200.

User Interface

Moto E offers an excellent integration of its software and hardware, offering a very good user experience. The Lumia 520 also offers a smooth performance. The Windows Phone 8 operating system also does not consume too much of resources, so there is no freezing, though pages might load a little slower when compared to the Moto E.
Camera and Battery

The Moto E comes with a rear camera of 5 MP. It does not have a secondary camera or a front camera. As for the Nokia Lumia 520, it has a 5 MP rear camera and also an autofocus feature. However, the Lumia 520 also does not have a front or secondary camera. The processor is not very resource consuming, so it offers good battery life.

The Lumia 520 has a Li Ion battery of 1430 mAh capacity. The Moto E has a Li Ion 1980 mAh battery that is non removable.

Verdict

The Moto E offers a very good option as a very cheap Android phone. However, many users still believe that the Lumia 520 from Microsoft is the best phone in the entry-level smartphone segment.
