Mozilla Firefox vs Google Chrome – Open Source Freeware Takes over Speed Champion in Grand Prix PI and NPI

In comparison with all the browsers of today, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are relatively older and better.

Grand PRix brought Firefox to a winning position and overtaking the long Champion Chrome in the performance index category. It takes the mean of wait times, HTML5/CSS3, Javascript/DOM and Hardware acceleration. Let us find out  the how and why of this.

Speed and Simplicity in Browsing

Chrome undoubtedly is a well polished and older browser than Firefox that is smoother owing to application shortcuts and packaged apps. Firefox on the other hand is slightly clumsier and congested in its look and working. Firefox gives its user the full rights to customize each feature present to the smallest detail, unlike Chrome. Most developers choose chrome as their primary browser, for the simplicity and the faster working options that it provides, but statistics show that Chrome has a slower page loading reliability. Chrome also has features like instant page load and voice sensitivity in its basket that Firefox doesn’t possess.

Extensions and Syncing Capabilities

In the categories of security and privacy, the extensions that Firefox offers are not clogging, unstable or incapable and offers more Tab groups to its users, compared to none in Chrome’s category.
Chrome simply has more extensions that end up congesting and making the users lag but its syncing capabilities are simply marvelous as you can log into your immediate work that you left off, from anywhere in the world.

Privacy and Security

Firefox outsmarts chrome by providing better privacy owing to its non-usage of third party options and secure password manager, unlike chrome’s insecure password manager. Firefox has immensely powerful security extensions along with better Adblock Plus. Also, in comparison, Firefox is an open source software while Chrome isn’t and Google aims to collect all your data while Firefox gains nothing from it. Chrome also has a Task Manager of its own to provide the transparency to check what actually is hogging the RAM.

Crash Reports, Flash Player and Licenses

Both the browsers tend to crash on the basis of their tab size and loading capacity. But, the reviews show that Chrome tends to crash up its tabs more than Firefox does with the same number of tabs.  Chrome supposedly eats up a lot of CPU memory and ends up gorging on your laptop memory. But all of that is dependent on the updates and upgrades you do and know as well. For example, with GreatSuspendor on Chrome, you simply have to click on the page elsewhere when it has gone blank, which is again the signal that it does not eat up the memory at all. This is not an automatic option of chrome but is a third-party extension. The solution, hence lies in perhaps not switching the browsers that you currently use, but managing your tabs and suitable extensions in an effective manner. For Firefox, the Flash Player Plugin is available but not built in, which tends to create the lags and hassles of its functioning, while in Chrome, the Flash Player Plugin is built-in and can also be disabled. Firefox holds an MPL license and is written in C/C++ Javascript, CSS, XUL, and XBL while Chrome is Free under the Google terms and conditions and is written in the languages Python and C++. Firefox also provides better mouse gestures than what Chrome does. The Latest stable release of Firefox was 27, while Google Chrome was 30.

Ratings

Firefox also shows a better user rating than Chrome by the critics on sites like, diffen.com and lifehacker.com. Firefox is also working extensively on its smoothness and simplicity.
