iPhone 5S vs Samsung Galaxy S4 – Price and Specs Comparison

Galaxy S4 is one of the best Android smartphones money can buy, while iPhone 5S is also the best iPhone in the affordable range. Let’s compare these two premium products and learn more about their features.

Size- Small is better

iPhone 5S is an extremely compact and slim device in comparison to the Galaxy S4. It stands 4.87 inches tall and has width equivalent to 2.31 inches.  The Galaxy S4 measures 5.39 inches (Height) by 2.75 inches (Width). iPhone 5S is slightly thinner at 0.30 inches while Galaxy S4 thickness is around 0.31 inches. Galaxy S4 is heavier than iPhone 5S; it weighs 130 grams while iPhone 5S weighs 118 grams.

Display – Big is better

Today’s smartphone is designed to do much more than dialing and answering calls and hence a larger screen has several advantages. iPhone 5S features a 4-inch display having a pixel density of 326 pixels-per-inch and resolution of 1136-by-640-pixel. Galaxy S4 features a 5-inch screen having a pixel density of 441 pixels-per-inch and resolution of 1080-by-1920 pixels. Both smartphones have protective covering for the displays. The galaxy S4 screen has a protective Gorilla glass while Retina display in iPhone 5S has an oleophobic coating that is finger-print resistant.

Processor – Faster is Better

A CPU+GPU combination has become standard for high-end phones and Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S have a powerful CPU and a dedicated motion processor. Apple has powered iPhone 5S with a 64-bit CPU and a dedicated M7 processor to manage graphics. A quad-core processor and a PowerVR SGX544MP3 graphics chip powers the Galaxy S4. Samsung provides two hardware configurations for its Galaxy S4; you can buy a Galaxy S4 having a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz or a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. Experts have an opinion that A7 CPU in iPhone 5S which is based on 64-bit architecture, is capable of handling multitasking in a better way than current generation quad-core processors.

Memory and Storage – More is better.

iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4 offer different storage capacities such as 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. iPhone 5S is equipped with 1GB RAM of DDR3 type while Galaxy S4 has 2GB RAM.  iPhone 5S does not feature a card slot, while Galaxy S4 features a card slot that can be used to expand storage space by maximum 64GB.

Camera – Higher is better

Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S have two cameras; a primary higher resolution located at the rear and lower resolution camera at the front of the device. The rear camera in iPhone 5S has 8MP resolution while Galaxy S4 rear camera has 13MP resolution. The front camera in iPhone 5S has 1.2MP resolution while front camera in galaxy S4 has 2MP resolution. Photography enhancement features like geo-tagging, touch focus; auto focus and LED flash for rear camera are present in both the devices.

You can purchase a unlocked and contract free 16GB model of iPhone 5S for $649 while a 32GB and 64GB contract free and unlocked model costs $749 and $849 respectively. A contract free unlocked model of Galaxy S4 with 16GB internal storage space costs $429.95.
