The iPhone 4S has a LED backlit, IPS capacitive touchscreen of 3.5 inches. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a bigger Super AMOLED, capacitive touchscreen of 5 inches. The resolution of the iPhone 4 S is lower at 640 x 960p, whereas that of the S4 is better at 1080 x 1920p. As for the dimensions, the iPhone 4S has dimensions of 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm and has a weight of 140 g. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is lighter at 130g and has smaller dimensions at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm.

Hardware

The iPhone 4S has a dual core Cortex A9, Processor, which is clocked at 1 GHz, and the Apple A5 Chipset. There are three physical memory variations of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. However, there is no SD slot for enhancing memory in the phone. The S4 comes with the quad core Cortex A15 Processor and is clocked at 1.6 GHz. It is also available in another variant of 1.2 GHz with the A7 processor with the Exynos 5 Octa 5410. The phone is available in three memory variants of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It can be expanded up to 64 GB with the use of a micro SD card. The iPhone 4S uses the iOS software that can be upgraded to the iOS7 OS, which is the latest. The S4 runs on the Android OS, which can be upgraded to the Jelly Bean 4.3 OS Version.

Camera Comparison

The iPhone 4S has a rear camera of 8 MP. It has features like the autofocus and the LED flash. It also has a secondary VGA camera. On the other hand, the S4 comes with an impressive camera of 13 MP in the rear and a front camera of 2 MP. The S4 camera also has several good features including dual shot, LED flash and the autofocus. It can also simultaneously take image recording and HD video.

Battery Comparisons

The iPhone 4S has a Li Po 1432 mAh battery capacity. It allows users about 8 hours of talk time for 3G. The battery is not removable. On the other hand, the S4 comes with a Li Ion battery of 2600 mAh capacity. It allows users a talk time of around 17 hours over 3G.

Verdict

The S4 offers a great evolution from the S3. It has removed all the small flaws present in the predecessor. The design is a little conservative but it is very well designed from an ergonomic viewpoint. You can easily use the device with a single hand, without resorting to shift your grip all the time. The bigger screen is also an advantage and is very useful for using applications, sending texts, typing email and for browsing purposes. The bigger screen is more ideal for playing games and for watching video clippings. The battery life is also very good and the back is removable. This means that you can switch the battery out whenever required. You can also buy spare batteries from Samsung, along with a charger. Those concerned with running out of power would do better to buy the S4.

On the other hand, the iOS of the iPhone 4S is very user friendly, but may not offer much in the way of customization. All tasks can be performed very smoothly on the iPhone 4S. Apple has its own ecosystem of OS and hardware, which makes a lot of difference. Also, the Siri in the iOS device is more superior to the S Voice used in the S4. The features have been ] improved in the iOS 6 version. It can also be launched much faster from the lock-screen, compared to the S Voice in S4.
