iPad Air vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 – Review, Specs, Features and Prices

The size of the new Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is very similar to the iPad Air, so, both will offer the same feel in your hand.

The iPad Air was released sometime in the fall of 2013, whereas the Tab Pro just arrived in the first quarter of 2014. The starting price of both the devices is around $500.

Dimensions and Display

The Wi Fi and LTE versions of both the devices are also of the same weight. The Tab Pro 10.1 comes with faux leather back, whereas the iPad Air has an aluminum backing. The Tab 10.1 comes with a display screen of 10.1 inches compared to the 9.7 inches of the iPad Air. The Tab offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600p and a pixel density of 299 ppi, with a ratio aspect of 16:10. As for the iPad Air, the screen has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 p; a ratio aspect of 4:3 and a pixel density of 264 ppi. Both the devices offer a sharp display, but the Tab has a higher ppi, so text and images are much sharper. The Tab is more of a landscape-oriented tablet and has the navigation buttons placed accordingly. The iPad Air comes with an IPS LCD display, whereas the Tab Pro comes with a Super Clear LCD display.

Comparing Storage / Battery Specs 

The iPad Air offers more storage options, being available in variants of 16GB; 32GG; 64GB and 128 GB. The Tab Pro is available in two variants of 16GB and 32GB, but comes with a microSD card slot for expanding storage up to 64GB. Both the devices come with batteries of almost the same capacity. The Tab Pro battery has a capacity of 8220 mAh, whereas the iPad Air’s battery comes with a capacity of 8827 mAh.

Hardware and Connectivity

The iPad Air is powered by the Apple A7 64 bit chip, with dual core, clocking at 1.4 GHz. The Tab Pro is powered by an Exynos 5 Octa of quad core 1.9 GHz and 1.3 quad core for Wi Fi and a Snapdragon 800, quad core clocking at 2.3 GHz for LTE. Though the specs of the Tab Pro look very impressive, the 64 bit A7 chip is very powerful. The Tab Pro comes with a bigger RAM of 2GB, compared to the 1GB RAM of the iPad Air. Both the tablets are sold in versions of Wi Fi alone as well as Wi Fi with cellular data.

Camera

The Tab Pro comes with a rear camera of 8 MP and a front camera of 2 MP. The iPad Air has a rear camera of 5 MP and a front camera of 1.2 MP. The iPad Air can capture video recording with a resolution of 1080p similar to the video recording capabilities of the Tab Pro.

Software and OS

The Samsung Tab Pro includes an IR blaster, which can be used to control your television as well as cable or satellite box with the device. The device also has the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat. This is skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. The Magazine UX is a new feature that has been added to the home screen.  This involves some home screen widgets that are permanently present on the home screen. It almost resembles the tiled user interface of Windows 8. The tablets can also access plenty of free applications and series, such as Bloomberg Businessweek, Dropbox and LinkedIn among others. The iPad Air comes with the iOS 7.0.4.
