Assassin’s Creed Unity PC Release Date Will Be Same as Consoles

The Ubisoft franchise is historically known for its delay when it comes to bringing the PC version of the game out on time.

However, this time the studio will not delay Assassin’s Creed Unity which will launch on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 at the same time. Producer of Unity, Lesley Phord Toy said, “I don’t have any specific information with regards to the release date of the PC version of the game, but from what I know, the three platforms will receive the title simultaneously. I haven’t heard anything different and I believe that it will be consistent this time around.”

Going by his words, we can assume that the PC version of Unity is going to be launched on the same day, which is highly unlikely, because Black Flag got delayed by three weeks and Assassin’s Creed 3 took even longer before it finally landed on Windows. The game developers cite that the hardware used in computers are so varied that they find it difficult to adapt to it and deliver good performance on all platforms. Sharing his views about these consistent delays, producer Lesley said, “We were always aiming to ship the game on all platforms at the same time. But, we find some hurdles when it comes to the PC version of the game, because it uses a vast range of hardware and you can’t necessarily predict what the player is using. The scenario is entirely different on the consoles because every customer is running the same hardware and first parties push firmware updates which makes it easy for us to know what we should expect on the platform.”

Are PCs Being Isolated?

Of late, the PC version of many AAA titles is not on par with the console quality because game developers focus more on building it for Xbox One or Playstation 4 than the Windows platform. A good example is the newly released Watch Dogs which was reduced down to the quality of a Playstation 3 console so that it could run on the Sony platform. It is being said that because of the huge sum that Microsoft and Sony pay, developers tend to focus on delivering the best experience on their platforms, than focus on PCs, which is a more widespread community, where monopoly doesn’t exist. Whether this trend will continue or not is yet to be known because a slew of great titles including Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Unity and Division are scheduled to get launched soon. When they do, you can assess whether they run smoothly on your computer or just bad ports that are making the game nearly unplayable.

According to the developer, Ubisoft will make sure that Unity launches on the same time on all platforms unless otherwise specified. The game comes under much speculation because it features single player co-op missions that supports up to four players which will offer a unique experience for players. If you are a PC gamer, just hope that Ubisoft does a good job this time around and doesn’t come up with a bad port that runs bad on your powerful gaming rig!
