So, you’re an Apple fan but you can’t afford to buy the 5S model? The older models are still very popular and their prices dropped gradually. You can buy either the iPhone 4 – with a weaker processor, camera and battery, or the iPhone 5C, which has some colorful back covers that will most likely cheer you up.
Displays and Sizes
Between the two iPhone models there’s a difference of screen sizes – and a slightly difference of screen resolutions. While the iPhone 5C has a 4inches LED-backlit IPS LCD display which renders a resolution of 640x1136pixels, the iPhone 4’s LED-backlit IPS LCD display is of 3.5inches and supports a lower resolution – 640x960pixels.
Apple made the iPhone 5C lighter than the older model, although the device is bigger. So, the newer model measures 124.4×59.2x9mm and it weights 132grams, while the iPhone 4 is 5grams heavier and has these dimensions: 115.2×58.6×9.3mm.
Hardware and OS
The iPhone 5C is powered by a 1.3GHz dual core swift processor and has the Apple A6 chipset. The internal memories are of 16GB and 32GB and can’t be expanded.
The iPhone 4 has an inferior processor – cortex A8 clocked at 1GHz, and the chipset is also “older” – Apple A4. This phone has three variants of internal memories – 8, 16 and 32GB, also unexpandable.
The iPhone 5C comes loaded with the iOS 7 OS and has 1GB of RAM, while the iPhone 4 has only 512MB of RAM and runs on an older OS – iOS 4, which is upgradeable to the iOS 7 version.
Cameras
The iPhone 5C has a more advanced primary camera – 8MP (LED flash and autofocus) and also a better secondary camera – 1.2MP. As for the iPhone 4, you’ll have to settle with its 5MP rear camera, which has similar features, and for video calls, you’ll have to use the VGA front camera.
Batteries
Both of the phones have non-removable Li-Po batteries, but of different capacities: the iPhone 5C’s battery has the capacity of 1510mAh, which allows you to talk approximately 10hours, on 3G, or to listen to music for 40hours. The iPhone 4’s battery is weaker – 1420mAh and it allows you to talk 7hours, on 3G, or to listen to music for 40hours.
Prices
The iPhone 8GB variant costs 173 dollars on amazon.com, while the 16GB variant is 258 dollars. The iPhone 5C 16GB variant costs 500 dollars and the 32GB variant costs 577 dollars.
