The strong contention between next gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One is their ability to render games in 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.
One of the most anticipated titles this year, Watch Dogs from Ubisoft is going to run at this resolution on any console. The news was officially confirmed by the company representative. They clarified that for offering optimal gaming experience, it has been designed to run on 900p on the PS4 console while Xbox One will run it on 792p. Based on these numbers, it is evident that the console war may start again claiming that the Sony console runs it 100 pixels higher than the Microsoft product but in reality both of them are underperforming while the game will run even in 2K or 4K resolution on a computer.
Mechanism Matters, Not Resolution
The game developers clarified about this disparity by telling that it is just a number that you get to see and it is similar to frames per second which is another number. In the end, the product and user experience matters the most because a game is not good until players can find themselves engaged with it. Besides, the concept of choosing the highest possible resolution in corridor shooters cannot be applied in a non-linear, open world game which is all about providing an engaging experience. The idea is to provide multiple missions for the player who can choose to play it anyway as they desire to achieve the outcome and Watch Dogs is designed around this narrative which requires more power than simply increasing the resolution.
Dynamism is what they are after, confirmed the developer team who postponed the release date of the game from November 2013 to 2014 to polish the game better. When they were questioned on why the time wasnât utilized to fix the resolution, the team replied their aim is to not chase numbers but rather create a memorable game that could boom in a solid franchise similar to Assassinâs Creed or Prince of Persia. The delayed time was used to make sure players are able to connect themselves with the hacking system, achieve what they need which shouldnât be deterred by graphics. By going for a tad lower resolution, they have ensured that the soul of the game be preserved.
Special Editions
It might sound surprising but Watch Dogs is about to get nine different special editions, each one with a specific set of goodies. The standard edition of the game has been priced at $60 while these editions will eventually launch. Not all nine are scheduled to get a worldwide release because some of them are exclusive to select territories. The exclusivity clears up some confusion because if there are nine different versions of the game at the same time, players will not be spoiled for choice but they will rather get confused on what to pay to experience the game properly. One of them is the complete Vigilante Edition which comes in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Australia.
