The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is the third generation of the 7 inch tablet PCs from Samsung.
It brings about crucial changes in several aspects of the device to make it compared with the current industry. Likewise, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the second-generation device of the 10.1 inch tablets, which did extremely well to compete with the iPad in the early stages of the tablet PC segment. However, the device was needed some freshening up and it arrived in the form of the second generation device on May 2012.
Comparing the looks of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 brings about a major change in one aspect – bezel size. This is comparatively thinner in the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, as it seems to be the way moving forward. Being 12 months older than the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, it is not surprising to see the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 feature in much larger bezel. This also has a major impact on the portability aspect of the tablet. Even though the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 features a much smaller 7-inch display, the thin nature of the bezel means that it is easy to carry around without having to lose out on screen size.
The 10.1 inch screen on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 makes it easy to be comparable with a small laptop in terms of functionality. It is extremely great to watch movies on this device especially given that the speakers provided by Samsung are good. The stereo sound coupled with the large memory size makes it easy to mistake it for a multimedia device, although it has several other capabilities apart from it.
Apart from the design element, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 comes with a 3.15 megapixel camera. Samsung has provided the essential elements in this regard without going for the fancy aspects like image stabilization and others. In fact, the 720p HD video recording and autofocus are the two features that come with the camera. This is also the case with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. However, it slightly loses out on the front facing camera aspect.
Compared to the 1.3 megapixel unit on the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes with a VGA camera only. The device also still relies upon the Adobe Flash player to provide Flash elements in the browser, while the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 comes with support for HTML5.
The two devices come with enormous differences in terms of battery and this is largely because of the screen size. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has to take care of a very large display and hence it comes with a 7000 mAh battery. The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 comes with a battery half the size of it at 4000 mAh.
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is one of the premium offerings from Samsung and comes at $ 400, while the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 retails at around $ 235.
