Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 – Comparison of Pricing and Specifications

Apple has dominated the tablet segment through its iPad range of which there are only a few.

After the first few launches from Samsung, it has become clear that the South Korean giant is unlikely to challenge Apple in terms of supremacy with just one product in its line-up. Samsung also appears to have realized this and they have been launching a number of products to satisfy the different needs of the customer.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was one of the first devices to feature a major shift for the company, while it recently came out with the third-generation – Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

Major Features

The Samsung devices have always been oriented towards the 16:9 format in order to make for a great multimedia experience. This is a shift from the square format offered by Apple for its iPad range. The two devices employ the same 10.1 inch touchscreen display. They also use the same resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The use of the TouchWiz user interface also enables them to have a similar experience, but the company has made significant changes to the UI over the years.

Decent Camera

Camera is not always the most important feature when it comes to a tablet PC. It is not known whether this aspect played a role in Samsung offering the two tablets with just a 3.15 megapixel camera, which comes with limited features at its disposal. They do not have autofocus and Flash. Only Geotagging is the feature offered as standard. There are also not capable of recording full HD videos and can do only 720p videos.

The front facing camera in the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, though, is 1.3 megapixel unit compared to the VGA camera in the previous generation. This at least helps the device to provide much better quality when video conferencing through apps like Skype.

Decent Processors

The two devices come with limited power at their disposal, but it is more than enough to run Android 4.0 and above. They use a dual core processor, but coming from the Intel Atom range – in the case of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 – it means that there is not a lot of power available to top the benchmark tests. Yet, it should be more than enough to run the operating system at a decent pace. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, meanwhile, comes with the dual-core 1 GHz A9 processor.

Despite offering only limited performance through its processor, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be able to support multitasking in a very good way due to the 1 GB of RAM offered.

Internal Storage

In this aspect, the two tablets offer the same internal memory options – 16 GB and 32 GB. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 supports up to 64 GB through external memory card, while the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 supports only up to 32 GB.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is available at around $ 200 with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 at around $ 150.
