Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 – Pricing and Specifications Comparison

The slew of launches from Samsung in the tablet segment has been made with only a lukewarm response due to the overwhelming popularity of the iPad.

Samsung has been coming up with new generations of the Galaxy Tab in order to increase its market share. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was launched in 2012 and it set about doing exactly that. It has been replaced by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 in the middle of 2013. This device offers some much-needed improvements in several areas.

Major Improvements

The area where the maximum improvement has been made in the eyes of many is in the quality department. Samsung has dramatically improved the quality of its recent products and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is testament to it. It has also worked extremely hard to improve the pixel density of the device. At a resolution of just 1024 by 600 pixels, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was simply not capable of delivering the high standards required to make a mark in the industry.

As a result, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 comes with a much better 1280 by 800 pixels of resolution. The slight increase in the screen size means that the pixel density increased is only marginal, but this was essential because of the same. The previous resolution will simply have not worked in the 8 inch unit given that the previous generation device already had a pixel density of just 170 PPI. Now, it has been increased to 190 PPI.

Connectivity

The two devices are primarily meant for entertainment purposes and this is one of the reasons for both devices to offer different ways of adding content into the device. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 comes with a huge array of connectivity options like DLNA, Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and USB host. This is in addition to the 3G support, which will depend upon the model purchased, to up to 21 Mb per second in download speeds.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 also had a lot of connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi direct, but it loses out to the latest generation device quite comprehensively in this regard. The Bluetooth variant also used in the tablet is the 3.0 version, which will mean slightly lower transfer rates.

Camera

This has not always been the key aspect of a tablet since the large nature of the device meant that people often found it easier to take pictures with their smartphones or digital cameras. Despite this, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came with a decent 3.15-megapixel camera, which has now been upgraded to the five megapixel unit on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. Apart from the increase in megapixel count on the rear camera, the front facing camera also gets the bump up to 1.3-megapixels.

The latest generation Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is available for $ 320 in the unlocked variant while the remaining stocks of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is expected to cost around $ 230.
