The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is yet to be released, but there have been leaks showing that the design is quite similar to the S5. It seems that Samsung has made some additions in the form of color choices, which are sportier in nature. The heart rate sensor is also missing, as this is a mid range phone. There are suggestions of an official announcement regarding the details of the phone, the price, the exact launch dates and so on. The launch date is expected to be around June 2014.
Screen and Display
The screen of 4.5 inches will be an upgrade to the 4.3 inches screen of the S4 Mini. The resolution is also an upgrade from the 540 x 960p qHD of the S4 Mini. The S5 Mini is supposed to come in a 4.5inches screen, with Super AMOLED display. The resolution is expected to be 720p HD resolution with pixilation of 720 x 1289 pixels and a pixel density of 326 ppi. It is a multi-touch display type of capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors.
Software and Hardware – Expected Specs
A quad-core processor powers the S5 Mini. The RAM capacity is 1.5GB and the storage is 16GB. It also has a battery capacity of 2100 mAh. The phone runs on the OS of Android 4.4 KitKat. The resolution of the screen will be an upgrade from the qHD resolution seen on the S4 Mini. The Android 4.4 will be an out of the box one, with the latest Samsung Touchwiz UI that was introduced in the S5. It is expected to have a battery power of 2100 mAh and comes with an IR blaster, with NFC connectivity offered. The phone also offers Bluetooth v 4.0 connectivity as well as Wi Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
The processor will be a Snapdragon one, though the chipset is not yet known. It could possibly be the quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU. The S4 makes use of the Snapdragon 400 with a dual core processor and is clocked at 1.7 GHz and an Andreno GPU of 305.
Camera
The phone is also said to have a front camera of 2 MP and a primary or rear camera of 8 MP. The front camera comes with an excellent resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and offers autofocus features. There is also an LED Flash feature. It features all the usual features, such as touch focus; face detection; HDR; panorama and geo tagging among others. You can also take video records at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.
The internal storage will be offered at a standard 16GB along with support for expandable storage with a microSD card.
It comes with an IR blaster and has other specs similar to the S4 Mini. It is expected that the S5 Mini will also be water-resistant as well as dust resistant. The device is expected to come with IP67 certification for these features. It is also not known whether it will have a fingerprint sensor, though the heart rate monitor feature seems to have been dropped.
Verdict
The news on the above-mentioned specifications is not yet confirmed from Sammobile. Samsung S5 Mini will be a mini version of its flagship phone of the year S5. It will certainly be an improvement on the previous year’s S4 Mini. The IR blaster will be a useful feature for remotely controlling the television. The Mini versions of the S3 and the S4 have been revealed, so it is safe to conclude that an S5 Mini will also be soon revealed. The S4 Mini comes at around $500, so the S5 Mini will surely be a little more.
