Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 – Specs, Features and Price Comparison

Samsung released the Galaxy Grand 2 as well as the S4 Mini in 2013, with the Grand 2 being released later in November and the S4 Mini sometime in July of the year.

The Grand 2 is the successor in the Grand series with dual SIM, whereas the S4 Mini is an affordable alternative to the high end S4 model, with all the features of the latter in a more compact device. The Grand 2 comes in shades of white and black as well as pink, whereas140-420

Display/Screen

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has a bigger screen of 5.2 inches, whereas the S4 Mini has a smaller screen of 4.3 inches, both having a capacitive touch screen. The S4 Mini also has a super AMOLED screen and a 256 ppi, being protected by Gorilla Glass 2 that protects it from any scratches. It is lighter, weighing 108g vs. the 163 g of the Grand 2, slimmer and more compact, compared to the Grand 2. On the other hand, the Grand 2 has a TFT display and a lower pixel density of 280 ppi. The measures for the Grand 2 are 146.8 x 74.3 x 8.9 mm and it weighs 163 g, whereas the S4 Mini’s dimensions are 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm and it weighs less at 107 g.

Software/Hardware

The Galaxy Grand 2 has a superior and more powerful processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, with a 1.2 GHz quad core, whereas the S4 Mini has a Dual core krait processor of 1.7 GHz. Both the devices have a RAM of 1.5 GB and are capable of multitasking and performing other background tasks. The internal storage for both the devices is 8 GB and it can be expanded with a microSD card up to 64 GB. The Samsung ST0-075 Galaxy Grand 2 operates on the 4.3 Android versions, whereas the S4 Mini runs on the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Android version and both are customized with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

Battery and Camera

The Grand 2 has a better capacity at 2600 mAh with the S4 Mini having a battery capacity of 1900 mAh, both being removable. Both the phones are dual SIM ones and both use a micro SIM as well. Both the devices have a Li Ion 2600 mAh battery offering a decent talk time and standby time.

The primary camera in the both the devices comes with a resolution of 8 MP and LED flash and the front facing camera for video calling has a resolution of 1.9 MP in both the devices. The S4 Mini as well as the Grand 2 has a resolution of 3264 x 2448 p and comes with autofocus and LED flash as well as other features like Geo tagging and face and smile detection, as well as HDR, Panorama etc. The video recording resolution is 1080 p at the rate of 30 frames per second.

Verdict

Both the Galaxy Grand 2 and the S4 Mini are priced at almost the same range and both offer a dual SIM option. The difference lies in the display size, with the Grand 2 being bigger. Yet, both the handsets have a lot of common specifications. If you would prefer a lighter phone, the S4 Mini is perfectly suitable, but it has a smaller battery capacity and runs on a dual core rather than a quad core processor. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 can be bought for around US$400 whereas the S4 Mini is priced around US$300.
