Nexus 5 vs iPhone 5S – Specifications and Pricing Comparison

Nexus devices have been growing in popularity over the last couple of years.

The recently launched Nexus 5 is a testament to this fact. Unlike the devices manufactured by Samsung and HTC in their first launches, LG have actually done a great job with the Nexus 4. This has prompted Google into providing the task of making the Nexus 5 a great phone into the hands of LG. In terms of pricing, the Nexus 5 is overcome by the likes of the Apple iPhone 5S. However, it is more than capable of matching the Apple product in terms of its features.

Screen

The iPhone 5 was replaced within 12 months by the iPhone 5S, but this phone came with minimal changes compared to the previous generation. The iPhone 5 took a huge leap by offering a larger display for the first time. This feature is retained in the iPhone 5S, but it is once again unable to compete with its android counterparts – namely the Nexus 5 – since the Google device uses a very large 4.95 inch unit.

Memory

This aspect of the Nexus has been hugely improved in the latest generation by the usage of 16 GB and 32 GB variants. Previously, the maximum internal memory that can be available for Nexus device was only 16 GB. However, unlike the phones from Samsung and HTC, Nexus 5 does not support external memory card. This does not give it an edge over the iPhone 5S, which also suffers from this handicap.

However, Apple has done extremely well to take care of this memory aspect by providing the phone with up to 64 GB of internal memory.

Camera

This amount of internal memory will be necessary on the two devices since they come with a very powerful camera that can do the work. It is especially true in the case of the iPhone 5S, which may offer only an eight megapixel unit, but this camera comes with every feature that is in the market today. This includes the ability to record full HD videos, take panorama pictures and take excellent selfie pictures through the 1.2 megapixel front facing unit.

The Nexus 5 may not be as comprehensive when it comes to the feature list, but the phone nonetheless offers most of these important features like full HD video recording. The front facing camera is also slightly better at 1.3 megapixels. The unique aspect of the Nexus 5 camera is the ability to make dual recording – use of front and rear cameras at the same time.

Processor

The Nexus 5 trounces the iPhone 5S in this regard by featuring a quad core 2.3 GHz processor, which will be entrusted with the task of running the android 4.4 operating system. Being a Nexus device, this phone is guaranteed to receive the latest android updates as soon as it comes out. However, the Apple devices have always been efficient and the iPhone 5S can do with just a dual core 1.3 GHz processor.

The iPhone 5S range starts from $ 697, while the Nexus 5 is around $ 400.
