iPad Air vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 – Specifications And Pricing Compared

The iPad has often represented the best option for those looking for a new tablet in the high-end category.

The early launches from Samsung in order to beat the iPad were certainly not in the same league as the Apple device. This has led to the Korean company working extremely hard in order to make competitive devices. They finally seem to have achieved this following the launch of the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. This device will be taking on the most popular product in this segment – the iPad Air.

Design

Just when it was thought that Apple could not make the design of the iPad any better, the company came out with the iPad Air, which is not only lighter than before, but thinner as well. The 7.5 mm thickness of the device is one of the lowest in any gadget with the display as large as the 9.7 inch. Even though the current generation Samsung device has improved extremely in this regard, at 8 mm, it is slightly beaten by the iPad Air.

Display

The 9.7 inch display on the iPad Air has remained constant throughout several generations of the device. It is at a disadvantage in comparison with the 10.1 inch display on the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 but only in terms of size. The iPad almost doubles the pixel density found on the Samsung device. Further, the iPad Air also uses the IPS panel that will enable it to provide much better color reproduction levels than the Samsung device, which does not rely on many major technologies.

Premium Element

The iPad Air remains as one of the finest built-in devices in the tablet segment, but it is quite clear that the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is slowly getting there. The device uses the same leather approach for the back cover as seen in several of the flagship devices from the company. This certainly improves the premium element of the device, but it cannot come close to the entire aluminium shell used to build the iPad.

Memory

The Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 has always had the luxury of supporting external memory cards. This helped the device overcome any future requirement in memory on behalf of the user. The iPad Air has not supported this aspect throughout its various generations and this latest device is no exception to this fact. However, it does support a new 128 GB internal memory option, which should be more than enough for every user’s requirement. This version of the iPad Air far exceeds the maximum theoretical value of memory that can be introduced on the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1.

Battery

Despite a large display, the Samsung device uses only a 6800 mAh battery compared to the non-removable 8820 mAh battery on iPad Air. However, both products claim to offer in excess of 10 hours of continuous usage.

The Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is available at just $400 for the 16 GB variant while the iPad Air is considerably more expensive at $460 for the same version without LTE support.
