HTC One M8 vs Apple iPhone 5S – Specs, Features and Pricing Comparison

It is a well-acknowledged fact that iPhones are precisely crafted devices with excellent design, but the One M8 from HTC is also no less a smartphone in comparison.

The iPhone 5S is a little more expensive at around $690 for the 16GB version and $800 for the 32GB version. The One M8 can be had for around $690 in case of the 32GB version.

Hardware Comparison

The iPhone 5S runs on the iOS 7 and the A7 64 bit processor. The HTC One runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Sense 6, Snapdragon 801 processor, quad core 2.3 GHz. The HTC One M8 also has a higher RAM of 2 GB compared to the 1GB RAM of the iPhone 5S. iPhone 5S offers internal storage of three variants, 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB. The HTC One M8 comes in 16GB version with an expandable micro SD card facility.

The HTC One M8 has a very impressive spec sheet with a power of 2600 mAh and a low power mode being available. In comparison, the iPhone 5S specs look quite scanty. However, the advantage is that the developers have optimized the apps for one platform. The battery is smaller at 1560 mAh, with the HTC winning on this one.

Screen and Display

The iPhone has an LCD display screen of 4 inches, weighing 112g, and a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, 326 ppi. The HTC One M8, on the other hand, has a 5 inches LCD screen, weighing 160 with a higher pixilation of 1920 x 1080 and 441 ppi. The iPhone 5S is slightly smaller with dimensions of 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm. The HTC One M8 is bigger at 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm. The HTC One M8 has a vibrant and sharper screen with good viewing angles and a beautiful display beating the iPhone 5S.

Design

The iPhone 5S is sleeker and slimmer and offers a premium look and feel and very comfortable to hold. The M8 is quite larger in comparison and might be difficult to operate with a single hand. A great change in the Apple’s design is the home button being replaced with the fingerprint sensor, the Touch ID.

Camera

The HTC has a duo camera, with a 4.1 MP camera having a dedicated sensor for depth, offering refocusing features. You can tweak pictures to any extent, but the ultrapixel feature results in snaps with a lower resolution. The low light performance is also not up to the mark. It is, however, enough if you are just planning to post your pictures on the social media or on Instagram. The front camera is a 5 MP one, which is better than eh 1.8MP camera of the iPhone 5S for Facetime. On the other hand, the iPhone 5S has an 8 MP rear camera with dual LED Flash, offering natural tones. It also offers improved performance in low light conditions. The app opens delightfully and filters can be easily accessed. Both the phones do not offer innovative technology with 4K capabilities for video, so the camera feature should not be a priority while choosing.

Operating System

The iPhone 5S comes with the iOS 7.2. It is intuitive, slick, and very fast, offering all the useful features. The Touch ID makes it simple to unlock the phone, apps and music. You can also expect to get apps and updates as soon as they arrive in the App Store. The Sense 6 user interface of the HTC is also excellent, based on Android 4.4 KitKat. It offers a new tap for unlocking feature and some gesture controls to quickly access the Home screen. BlinkFeed has also seen some improvements.

Verdict

The bulk of the HTC might be daunting to some. The iPhone 5S has an excellent design and aesthetics complemented with the iOS 7.1 OS. However, the HTC betters it in other specs.
