HTC One M8 Review: The Metallic Masterpiece Returns

After being very heavily leaked, the HTC One M8 has finally arrived. Was it worth the long wait we had?

Let us take a look at the specifications of the device and find out of for sure, our expectations were met or not. It has been very highly anticipated with the original HTC One receiving loads of praise from critics and amazing sales as compared to any of the previous HTC handset. So what does this new device have to offer? With a price around 880 dollars, this is what is packed into the device.

Design and Build

During a briefing done by the manufacturer, it was clear that the key selling point for the HTC One M8 would be the design and build of the device. HTC is hoping that consumers want a beautiful and finely crafted handset. This is a hypothesis that has been hugely supported by the success that Apple has had with their beautifully designed devices. As a result, a lot of effort was put into making the exterior of the device look great. It feels quite different in the hand as compared to the previous model with a curved aluminum back, end caps and front facing speakers. There are also lots of curve with the back panel being rejigged with the curvature becoming more prominent and it now fits snugly in your palm unlike its predecessor. The corners of the device also have a more rounded design and its backing tapers round in a single continuous piece forming smooth and beautifully curved sides.

Except for some minor gripes such as activating the screen when you grip the phone, the phone looks generally slick. It brings out a cool edge with the punched speaker grilles. There have also been a number of changes on the frame with the power button being shifted to the top right for ease of operation as well as the headphone port being taken to the base of the device.

HTC One M8 Dot View Cases

The manufacturer even went a step ahead and produced the Dot View case which is available in different colors. In case you have no idea what the Dot Case is all about, it is simply a soft-touch plastic flip cover that is fitted to the back panel of the device. It can show the time and weather through the dots whenever you activate your handset providing a handy means for providing at a glance information and notifications.

Display

The screen is a large 5 inch panel with full high definition 1080p resolution and a pixel density of 440ppi. The screen is much brighter with a richer array of colors as compared to the previous model. The phone also has a great viewing angle and you can even use the device in sunlight.

Hardware Storage and Connectivity

The device comes with 16 GB of on board storage with a micro SD slot that supports cards of up to 128 GB. There is also a 32 GB variant in existence though not available in all markets. The connectivity is just like any other standard high end android device with support for 4G and 3G networks, Wi Fi and Bluetooth among other connectivity options.

All in all, the HTC One M8 has really done a good job of combining great design with an array of great features. We are definitely looking forward for more great stuff from them.
