Blackberry 10 Review – New Features and Specs From Blackberry

The BlackBerry Q10 arrived in 2013, some months after the release of the Z10.

The Q10 offers a mix of the old and new features. The Z10 is a touchscreen phone that is superb for media consumption, offering great productivity features. The Q10, on the other hand, provides a QWERTY keyboard and is touch oriented, though the physical keyboard is on its way out in smartphones. Though both the phones came into the market at almost the same time, they are aimed at different types of users. Both the phones sport the distinctive BlackBerry design and look; subtle and businesslike.

Hardware Specs Comparison

There is a lot in common between the Z10 and the Q10, as far as the hardware specs are concerned. Both the phones run on a dual core processor of 1.5 GHz. They both have a RAM of 2GB and come with internal storage of 16GB and an external storage of 32GB. Both the devices have an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera. They also have similar button positions.

Battery and Camera

However, there are differences between the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. The small screen on the Q10 is an advantage, as it leads to better battery life. The Z10 has a smaller battery capacity of 1800 mAh, whereas the Q10 has a capacity of 2100 mAh. The battery on the Q10 also lasts longer due to the smaller screen, especially as it is an AMOLED one. The bigger screen of the Z10 uses up more power.

Both the phones have a rear camera of 8 MP with LED. Both are also capable of video recordings at 1080p HD at a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. They also have a front camera of the same resolution of 2 MP.

Size and Display Compared

The Q10 has smaller dimensions of 4.71 x 2.63 x 0.41 inches, whereas the Z10 has dimensions of 5.12 x 2.58 x 0.35 inches. Both the phones are almost similar in weight, with the Q10 being slightly heavier at 139g compared to the 138g of the Z10. The Z10 has an IPS LCD display of 4.2 inches with a resolution of 768 x 1280p and a pixel density of 356 ppi. The Q10 has a lower resolution of 720 x 720p and a pixel density of 330 ppi.

The Q10 has a smaller screen of 3.1 inches, with a Super AMOLED technology for display. The Z10 is preferable due to the bigger screen. The ratio aspect of the Z10 is 15:9, which makes it more suitable for web browsing, viewing videos and photos, games and so on.

The keyboard is the biggest difference between the two devices. The Z10 has one of the best virtual touchscreens. It is fast and accurate and has an amazing autocorrect feature capable of working in various languages simultaneously. However, there are some who are not comfortable with touchscreen keyboards. The Q10 offers a physical keyboard. The keys are smaller than the Z10 screen, but the metal frets help guide you to the correct letter.

Physical and Virtual Keyboards

The Q10 as well as the Z10 are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 and have a dual core processor of 1500 MHz Krait with an Adreno 225 graphics processor. Both the devices also have the same RAM of 2048 MB and a built in storage of 16GB. However, the Q10 is only expandable up to a maximum of 32GB, whereas the Z10 can be expanded up to 64 GB.

Verdict

If you prefer a physical keyboard, you can opt for the Q10. However, if you want a big beautiful screen, a fantastic virtual keyboard and more apps, BB Z10 is the way to go. The Z10 is very comfortable for productivity, such as opening up a spreadsheet or for viewing a film. On the other hand, the Q10 offers a physical keyboard, which is the main selling point.
