Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 – Comparison of Specs and Pricing

After its repeated failures to capture the high-end tablet segment due to the domination of the Apple iPad, Samsung came out with the high-end ‘Pro’ lineup within its Galaxy Tab range of devices.

They promised to provide features that would not only compete with an Apple iPad, but comfortably overtake it as well. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is the first device with an 8.4 inch display to be launched under this category. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 meanwhile, is a second-generation device in the Galaxy Tab’s main line-up.

Latest High-End Design from Samsung

Being the latest kid on the block, the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which was launched only in January 2014, comes with an attractive design, which is not only beautiful to look at, but also extremely thin as well. At just 7.2 mm in thickness, the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 can easily compete with the iPad Air in terms of its looks. It also weighs extremely low at just 331 g.

Apple has been boasting of the retina display for quite a while and the tablet range from Samsung just got better with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels in the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

Occupying a much lower segment in terms of pricing, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is not the lightest or thinnest device in the market. However, it provides the basic necessities in a neat little package to make it very attractive at this price. Further, it comes with 10.1 inch display, which is even larger than the one found on the iPad. The resolution that it offers – 800 x 1280 pixels – though is another point. Due to this low resolution, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 cannot compete with the high-end tablets in terms of detail on the screen.

Connectivity

The Wi-Fi only version of both devices comes with lot of connectivity options. Most of them are normal as per the tablet requirements. They include the likes of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB. In addition to these standard features, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 offers Wi-Fi direct and Wi-Fi hotspot. However, it loses out to the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in terms of the speed of transfer. This is because it uses the Bluetooth version 3 compared to the version for the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

The better form of connectivity in the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is justified because the tablet offers support for more memory. Even though the two devices come with the same internal memory options of 16 GB and 32 GB, the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 provides support for an additional memory card of up to 64 GB. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 meanwhile offers only support up to 32 GB.

The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is the significantly powerful tablet of the two due to a quad core 2.3 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. It is priced at close to $ 350 for the 16 GB version, while the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is slightly lower at close to $ 300 for a similar memory version.
