Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 – Specifications and Pricing Comparison

Being in an industry where 12 months is a very long time, Samsung has been frantic with its updates for every generation of its tablets.

This is especially true in the case of the Galaxy Tab. The second generation of the tablet – Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 – was made available in April 2012. Just after year, the company came out with the third generation – Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. Even during this short span of time, Samsung has managed to implement several new features that will help the device compete in the market.

Little Changes in Design

Given the amount of launches that Samsung made over the last few years, the company can be forgiven for not making significant upgrades to the Galaxy Tab in terms of design. The size of the bezel and other aspects are very similar between the second and third-generation tablets. The company, though, has worked furiously in order to make the device easier to manage. It is now more portable thanks to lesser thickness of just 9.9 mm.

Carrying the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 will also be easy due to the reduced weight of 306 g. The second generation of the device had a thickness of 10.5 mm and weight of 345 g.

Less Changes in the Screen

Since it came more than a year after the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came into the market, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 was expected to significantly improve the display. However, it retains the same 7 inch unit with all other features. This would be a disappointment for some since they would have been expecting for the pixel density of just 170 PPI to be improved in the third-generation. The TouchWiz user interface, though, has been given some changes to make it more user-friendly.

Slight Improvement in Speed

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came with a powerful dual core 1 GHz processor. This enabled the device to run the android 4.0 operating system out of the box. Since then, android has been upgraded to the 4.4 version as of now. However, this processor and 1 GB of RAM allow the device to be upgraded to the android 4.2 version only. This is also the same case with the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. However, it features a slightly better processor of 1.2 GHz rated (again a dual core). The RAM is also similar at 1 GB.

Color Options Reduced

The second-generation Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came with three different color options – white, black, and red. However, it has been replaced by just the white color offering in the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.

In terms of connectivity, the latest generation of the device comes with an added support for DLNA in addition to the several connectivity options like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Even though the two devices come in several variants, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 comes at around $ 180 for the 16 GB variant with Wi-Fi connectivity only. The second-generation device will be available at around $ 150 for a similar spec device.
