Samsung Galaxy S5: 7 Best Apps to Download Now For Free

If you recently purchased the newest edition of Samsung’s Galaxy series the S5, then you are probably super excited to download some new apps to get the most out of your phone.

The Galaxy S5 is a superb device, but the addition of a few keys apps can enhance your enjoyment exponentially.   Here are a few of my favorites and how they enhance your experience.

Dynamic Notifications

This is a neat app that turns the lock screen on the phone into a message board.  When you receive a new SMS, email, or call, an icon lights up on the lock screen and information is displayed to let you know what has come in and who it is from.  This allows you to glance at your phone and decide if it is something that needs or immediate attention, or if it is something that can wait.

Milk Music

This app is available only in the US on Samsung phones.  It can be found in the Samsung apps store and it totally worth the download.  Similar to Pandora, Milk Music allows you to stream customizable radio stations without a fee and without ads.  So save your money on premium Spotify or Pandora memberships because you get this for free with your Samsung purchase.

Google Keyboard

If you are anything like me, you find it hard to adjust to a new keyboard.  Years ago, I downloaded the Google keyboard and have kept with it.  It has gesture typing and the predictive text is intuitive and easy.  I found the Samsung keyboard to be tedious, and I am sure I am not alone.  Try this one and you will come back to it again and again.

Dropbox

Everyone on Earth needs Dropbox.  This app allows you to place files in a folder on your phone and then they are automatically available on your PC, and vice versa.  As a mom, I find this to be so very handy for pictures.  When I take pictures with my phone, they are automatically placed in the Dropbox folder and available on my PC for when I choose to print them or send them to family.  It is easy and free for up to 3GB of storage.

Outlook

Similar to the keyboard design, I was not happy with the email interface.  I have a Hotmail account that I have used for years, and this app gives me access to it in a way that is very similar to the PC version.  It is simple to set up and makes keeping up with email very easy.

Juice Defender

Although the battery life on the new Galaxy S5 is impressive, it is always a good idea to download a good battery saving app.  I like this one because it stays on top of those annoying programs like navigation bundles, which come from the manufacturer on a new phone.  This app has a powerful task manager and it operates in the background without interfering.

Samsung Chat On

This is another awesome app meant exclusively for Samsung patrons.  This app allows you to combine multiple chat programs into one interface.  It can even communicate with older non-smartphones.  So if you need to text your Great-Aunt Hilda on her ancient flip-phone, you can do that from this app as well as talk to your GF on her new phone.

Getting a new phone is so exciting!  There are so many ways to customize and make the device your own that each and every phone out there is different.  Make your new Galaxy your own by downloading apps.  If you don’t like them, you can always delete them.  Try out a few and find some new favorites today!
