Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs Nexus 4 – Price and Specs Comparison

Samsung and Google are two leading Smartphone companies.

Google only does the design and development part of the Nexus Smartphones; the devices are manufactured by LG Electronics. Galaxy Grand 2, a successor to Galaxy Grand is developed and manufactured by Samsung. Grand 2 has dual-SIM capabilities. Let’s take a closer look at both phones and know their features.

Design and Dimensions

Galaxy Grand 2 is a recent release. The phone measures 5.78 inches vertically and 2.96 inches horizontally and its thickness is around 0.35 inches. Looking at the form factor, it seems you can comfortably manage to hold the phone in one hand especially if you have long fingers. On the other hand, the Nexus 4 is slightly smaller in size and measures 5.27 inches vertically and 2.70 inches horizontally. Despite bigger in size, Grand 2 is slightly thinner than the Nexus 4 which has a thickness of 0.36 inches.

Display – Nexus Has a Better Display

Despite belonging to the premium category of phones, Grand 2 sports a capacitive TFT touchscreen. It is surprising Samsung did not offer Super AMOLED screen in Grand 2. Nexus 4 features a High Definition IPS touchscreen that offers far better clarity and resolution than TFT screen in Grand 2. The TFT screen in Grand 2 measures 5.25 inches and has a resolution of 720-by-1280 pixels that transforms into a pixel density of 280 pixels-per-inch. The True HD display in Nexus 4 measures 4.7 inches and has a resolution of 738-by-1280 pixels that transforms into a pixel density of 320 pixels-per-inch. Nexus 4 display is protected by Gorilla glass from Corning, which is scratch-resistant. Grand 2 display does not have any protective layer.

Performance- Nexus 4 Has Better CPU and GPU

Grand 2 is equipped with a Cortex-A7 processor having a clock speed of 1.2GHz. It also has a dedicated graphics processor- Adreno 305. Nexus 4 features Krait processor with clock speed of 1.5GHz and a dedicated graphics chip- Adreno 320. Both Smartphone has quad-core processors fitted on Snapdragon chipset, but Nexus 4 is equipped with the advanced Snapdragon S4 Pro that enhances its overall performance. Nexus 4 has 2GB RAM while Grand 2 has 1.5GB RAM only. Grand 2 offers more options in terms of storage space. The device has an internal storage space equivalent to 8GB and also an option to add a MicroSD card to expand storage space. Nexus offers two models; one model having 8GB and other having 16GB internal storage space.

Camera – No Significant Difference

Grand 2 and Nexus 4 are equipped with two cameras. There are no significant differences in camera features of both Smartphones. Both Smartphones have a 8 megapixel rear camera with 3264-by-2448 pixels resolution. Grand 2 has a 1.9 megapixel camera at the front while Nexus 4 has a 1.3 megapixel camera. Features like Geo tagging, autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, smile and face detection are present in both Smartphones. Grand 2 has an additional image stabilization feature while Nexus 4 has a photo sphere feature.

Price

Nexus 4 is available in two versions; 8GB and 16GB. The price of 8GB model is around $199 while 16GB model costs $249. Galaxy Grand 2 can be purchased for approx $400.
