Samsung Galaxy S4 vs iPhone 5S – Price and Specs Comparison

The competition in the premium phone category is getting hotter every day.

It is not just the arrival of summer that is causing the heat, but the competition between the latest flagship offerings by the two mobile giants, Samsung and Apple, has set the mercury levels soaring skyward. While most users have a preference for the OS used by the phone, many others choose their smartphone based on the price and specifications offered by the handset. If you are undecided, on which premium offering to go for, here is a quick note on the comparison between the specification of two leading premium smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S4, and iPhone 5S that can help you take a call.

The Making of the Smartphones

The 5-inch display screen of Galaxy S4 gives it the tag of a phablet. Apple’s 5S on the other hand looks tiny in comparison with its 4-inch screen. It is also lighter like most other Apple phones. Since it has a tall and thin look, it is much easier to use the phone with a single hand. The material used to make 5S looks more fine and rich in comparison to Galaxy S4, which continues to look like plastic. Galaxy S4 runs images on a pixel density of 441ppi on its AMOLED screen. This is higher than the 377ppi pixel density offered by the tall LCD screen of 5S. The Gorilla Glass used in both phones offers added screen protection.

What Lies Beneath

5S runs on a dual-core processor that clocks 1.3GHz and it is powered by A7 architecture. It powers its display with GPU known as PowerVR G6430. Samsung’s S4 on the other hand offers an enhanced performance through its Snapdragon 600 chip that clocks 1.9GHz. 5S and S4 both offer three variants with 16GB, 32GB, as well as 64GB internal memory space. S4 earlier operated on 4.2 Jelly Bean Android platforms that has now upgraded to the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Apple only offers 1GB of RAM space in its 5S series of phones. Samsung on the other hands offers double the RAM space in S4.

Camera and Other Specs

Galaxy S4 comes with a 2MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera. iPhone 5S on the other hand offers a 8MP rear camera along with LED flash as well as BSI. It packs in many other features like Geo-Tagging and AutoFocus that offer extra customization and flexibility to clicking enthusiasts. 5S offers many other specs that are missing in Samsung’s S4. It has a TouchID sensor that allows you to unlock the phone using your fingerprints.

If you are not a brand loyalist, the above comparison points to only one winner- Apple’s 5S. Although it has a low pixel density than S4, its LCD technology helps in offering rich contrasting images to its users. Its small size is also an advantage for those who prefer to carry less bulky phones. Its camera may offer low pixel strength but the camera features makes it a winner. What remains to be seen is that who wins the next round of battle with Samsung announcing its next launch soon.
